Doesn’t this alligator look like he doesn’t have a care in the world? His whole life motto could probably be summed up with one simple phrase: “Whatever floats your boat.” I wanted to capture a unique perspective with this painting to not only challenge myself as an artist, but to capture a feeling I think we all need a little more of. The freedom to simply be yourself. It’s so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, what everyone else expects, or whether the choices we’re making look right to someone watching from the outside. But your life doesn’t have to make sense to everyone else. You don’t have to follow the same current. You don’t have to take the path everyone else thinks you should take. You don’t have to explain every decision, chase every expectation, or make yourself smaller just to fit someone else’s idea of who you’re supposed to be. Let this painting be your reminder to be a little more unbothered. Be a little more yourself. And let everyone else worry about their own boat.
