This particular scene here is extra special for me. I went fishing with my dad a couple of years ago in Pat Bay, Louisiana and took a photo that I’ve had saved ever since (see the last pic). I knew I eventually wanted to paint it, but it was a little intimidating because I wasn’t able to get the perfect composition in the picture. When I started mapping out this collection, I came upon the picture again while looking for inspiration and I was finally ready for the challenge.

The title, In the Midst, reflects who my dad is to me. He’s always always always there for me any time I need him. In the midst of challenges. In the midst of happiness. In the midst of stillness. In the midst of anything this life brings. He’s there in the midst of it all.

Right Place, Right Time captures that moment when you look up and suddenly notice a friend. I wanted to have this scene mirrored by splitting it into two paintings; showing that distance, but closeness you feel in this glimpse. The white of the feathers are never simply white if you look closely. You can see the rainbow of colors, yet your brain still registers that the birds are white.

I took a picture on False River in Louisiana of a lonesome little lotus flower not knowing if I would even paint it one day (see the last pic). Measuring at 48”X60” wide, On the Bright Side is a painting you just want to dive into. With the light refractions in the corners, the lotus petals and lily pads catching the sunlight, the egrets soaring in the wind, and the opal sky, I think the title is a given. Capturing depth in a painting on this scale made my eyes go a little crossed, but I wanted to be sure I could have your eyes focus in on the lotus flowers in the forefront while also drawing you towards the way back to see the fog in the tree line.

This diptych piece is my largest piece to date. I knew this painting was going to be the one to set the tone of the collection. The one where it really looks like heaven and the swamp collided. I pray that those egret wings carry up all the glory of this piece straight up to the Kingdom above.

I'll be honest, I pretty much blacked out while I painted this. This is obviously one of the most intense paintings I've ever done and it's like my brain couldn't even process what was unfolding in front of me. But once I finished, I just sat and stared at it. For a long while. I couldn't look away.

All He was repeating to me in different ways was "this is how much I love you".

I truly did not know where to begin, so | just kept praying about it and putting this piece off. Finally, I got the confidence to start and once I did I couldn't stop until I finished. This will forever be one of the most powerful pieces I have ever done.

Title: ‘Jesus, I Trust in You’

“Look at Me”

That’s all I heard.

So let me back up a little bit…I really wanted to create something meaningful for my parents who helped me throughout the entire process of purchasing my first home. It was extremely stressful, but they were there with me the whole time and I truly could not have came out on the other side without them. So, this piece is for them.

However, I was UNPREPARED for what I would feel while painting it.

I’m going to be honest—I absolutely love being an artist, but I don’t always get those deep, soul-shifting emotions when I paint. I see other artists talk about being moved to their core by what they create or all these feelings felt while creating a specific piece... and honestly, I’ve envied that. Most of the time, I’m just praying I don’t make a mistake.

And I get distracted easilyyy, too. I can’t focus or drown out the noise a lot of times. I spiral into the comparison game, imposter syndrome, the pressure to have it all figured it out by now—you know all those “midlife, existential crisis” type thoughts.

But whenever the brush hit the canvas for this piece, I heard:

“Look at Me”

“Stop focusing on everything else. Just look at Me. You don’t have to have everything figured out—I do. Look at Me. Don’t let the noise of the world take over. I want you to look at Me and trust that everything will be okay.”

So that’s what I did while painting this Divine Mercy.

I looked at Him.

And He calmed my mind.

He drowned out the noise.

He slowed me down.

He held me up.

And He looked back at me.

So let this piece be your reminder to stop focusing on everything else and everyone else.

Look at Him—and let Him be your refuge.

Title: ‘The Good Shepherd’

What do you feel when you look at this painting?

I can tell you that I felt many emotions while painting it-comfort, peace, joy, longing-the list goes on. Something about painting religious scenes just hits my soul in a different type of way than if I were just painting any other southern nature scene. Don't get me wrong, I love being inspired by the beauty and culture of the South, but there's nothing quite like the feeling of painting a scene all about Jesus.

He reminds me that He is the one in control of the brush when I paint a scene like this. And the freedom that gives me??? It's liberating, truly. I'm not in control of the brush just like everything else in life!

So let Him lead you and me through the thick of whatever it is. Like the little sheep you see here. Just follow Him and we will be okay because HE IS GOOD

Title: ‘The Last Supper’

Let me start by saying…Jesus did it, not me.

I’ve wanted to paint The Last Supper for a while now, but if I’m being honest, I was so scared to take up the challenge fearing I would fail at it all.

Coming up with the layout? That sounds difficult.

Painting 13 faces? No thank you.

Painting all those hands??? Nope. Nope. Nope.

But something was just constantly nudging me and telling me to go for it and I didn’t want to give in to that fear of falling short on painting such a renowned image. I wanted to be able to make it my own somehow. I wanted to not only make a statement piece that would bring Glory to God, but also have a piece of art that I could look at whenever I I feel intimidated by an idea I want to paint again.

Once I settled on the fact that I was actually doing this, I was like okay, go big or go home, right? So of course I went out and bought one of the biggest canvases that I’ve ever painted on, crammed it into my car, and got to work with Jesus by my side.

Andddddd it was difficult. I mean almost everything was really really difficult to capture the way I wanted. But I just kept painting. I strived to make everything as perfect as I could possibly make it and funny enough, when it came time to finally paint the face of Jesus…it was effortless. I mean, I didn’t have to correct anything. I just mindlessly painted. It was like he was rewarding me for persevering through the first 110 hours.

Anyway, if you can’t tell at this point, I’m very proud of this painting and I’m so thankful that I trusted Him to guide me through it all.
