THE STORY BEHIND IT
This was a commissioned piece that spoke volumes to me…
Mrs. Dawn reached out to me to bring to life this amazing statue she saw in a garden at the Washington Cathedral where it reminded her of the prodigal son returning home to his father. Taking on this commission with much excitement, I was not expecting it to MOVE me the way it did.
The process of painting is sometimes intimidating, daunting, and just filled with pressure to make everything perfect for my customers. Except with this piece, I just felt an overwhelming sense of peace bringing it to life. And there’s no other explanation that I can think of besides the image I was actually painting. It was the peace that only Jesus can give to us; the comfort that only he brings. And it was like I was receiving that consoling embrace that the person in the statue is receiving.
I decided to make this painting into a print because I believe that other people will be able to connect to it the same way Dawn and myself were able to. Some paintings are just too good not to share.
